Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 End of Life

Microsoft has announced that they will stop supporting Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 operating systems on January 14, 2020. After this deadline, technical assistance and software updates that help protect your PC will no longer be available for these products.

What does this mean for you as a business and what is the risk?

The biggest issue with continuing to use Windows 7 and/or Window Server 2008 is that it puts your computers at significant risk. These products will no longer receive updates from Microsoft for any new viruses or security threats once the End of Life (EOL) deadline hits, which leaves you extremely vulnerable to any emerging threats.

What’s more, it is safe to assume that cyber criminals are also well aware of the impending End of Life date and will be ready to use this knowledge to their advantage. If a large number of people continue to use these products despite the discontinued software support from Microsoft, it could actually encourage malicious users to target viruses and other nasties at Windows 7.

Accordingly, third party software companies will stop supporting Windows 7 as it will be an out of date operating system.

If you currently use either Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008, you need to be thinking about how to transition to a supported operating system. Contact your IT provider now!
